Frequently Asked Questions

What age do you need to be to have a massage?

Massage Therapy is safe and beneficial at any age. If you and your therapist can discuss what your areas of concern are, and your therapist is confident you understand and can give consent, every treatment can be modified to accommodate any age.

What types of health insurance do you accept?

We accept and direct bill to most insurance providers; given they will allow us. Most large companies (Sunlife, Manulife, etc) will allow us to bill directly so you are asked to only pay the difference (if it is not covered 100%).

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

You do not need a doctor's referral for any treatment. However, your insurance may request a doctor's note to cover the cost of your massage therapy appointment.

What is included in my Massage Therapy Appointment?

Your appointment time will include a review of your complete heath history, initial assessment or re-assessment, treatment, and self care recommendations. These are necessary steps to ensure you receive safe quality care. We ask that patients come about 10 minutes early to fill out some paperwork. Please bring any pertinent information with you (X-ray/CT/MRI reports, bone density reports, etc.).

Do I have to take off my clothes?

Massage Therapy consists of primarily hands-on techniques applied directly to the skin. Linens are used to ensure each patient is fully covered and within any Massage Therapy treatment only the area that is being massaged will be undraped at that time. Patient comfort is a RMT’s primary concern, therefore you will only be required to undress to your own comfort level.

Does Massage Therapy hurt?

Massage therapy can be specifically for relaxation only and in this case your massage should not be painful at all. If you require treatment for a specific condition, some techniques may be more uncomfortable. The therapist will always work within your tolerance and should always check with you during the treatment to make sure you are ok. You have the option to stop or alter the treatment at any time and you should always tell your therapist if the pressure they are using is too much.

I feel sore the day after my massage, is this normal?

It can be. In some cases, muscle soreness can happen, sometimes after a deeper treatment or if it has been a long time since you have had a massage, or there was a particular spot you and your therapist decided needed to be focused on. Using deep moist heat like a heating pad or Epsom salt bath and stretching or gentle movement may help eliminate the soreness. Make sure to let your therapist know on your next visit how you felt. The pressure used may need to be adjusted for your comfort.

What if I cannot make my booked appointment time?

We ask that you call or email the office to notify us. Our clinic has a cancellation policy that requires 24 hours to cancel or reschedule a booked appointment. A $35 fee will be charged to you if 24 hours notification is not given. *there are exceptions, and we try to
work with each patient as sometimes life happens.
